Better Place.

Met her at an old club down the street
She was singing old songs – off a sheet
Fingers on the strings, she played the blues
I was sitting there in front of her, feet tapping in my shoes

It was my friend Paul that introduced me to her
Said she had the same interests and the same brown hair
We got along well, we were holding hands
Don’t remember what she said, but all I know is that

She’s gone to a better place
Or so she said
Some call it Heaven
Some call it Hell
And others they say
“It doesn’t matter anyway”
But they don’t believe in Him

Out on the roads, in the winter so cold
She trudged through the snow, it never got old
She sang all the songs, the only one’s she knew
And she played her guitar to the tune, to the tune

She’s gone to a better place
Or so she said
Some call it Heaven
Some call it Hell
And others they say
“It doesn’t matter anyway”
But they don’t believe in Him

She said “I love you”
Said “I’ll never leave your side”
She said “I promise there’ll be better days for you and I”
But all those promises couldn’t mean much now
Cause I’m all alone and she’s going down South

She’s gone to a better place
Or so she said
Some call it Heaven
Some call it Hell
And others they say
“It doesn’t matter anyway”
But they don’t believe in Him
She said, “No, they don’t believe in Him”
No, not like she did.

  3. peejay says:

Wel you’d want me to be straight with it. 🙂

I loved the first verse and the next, after that it just diluted into smthing that I havent seen happen in Imaad’s work before..

Why not “different” ? And is that really so ?;)
I like the song and it makes sense to me.
Would be nice to have the music with it.

  5. Shru says:

    Yes, like everyone’s said, different.

listened to it…I assume this is your first recording so i’m not going to spend time commenting on sound balance etc..

Lyrics: I think some of the lines are a little too long: Said she had the same interests and the same brown hair (i feel you are trying to fit the music to the words and its beginning to sound a bit artificial there)

Some of the lines are a bit too short Out on the roads, in the winter so cold…you have to drag…

VOICE: The tune sounds a bit monotonous..Also possibly this may be due to the lack of sound balancing…but as far as an acoustic goes…you need to let up on some of the lines instead of shouting the end of each ones end out..possibly shorter lines might also help link lines.. Also since lines like “And she played her guitar to the tune, to the tune” are just before the chorus you can say to the tune once…after pausing a bit and then go into the chorus..more impact i feel…

MUSIC: I like the chords (Though i’m not much of a musician and this section shouldnt really count for much) but feel that there again you may need to tap on the guitar a bit as well..make a few strums shorter and some longer without your voice or have a guitar only piece in..

anyway thats my 2 cents.. 🙂
