Funeral In Heaven are a Hela Black Metal band hailing from the crypts of Colombo, Ceylon. Udhbhawaya is a track out of the upcoming EP, ‘Daiwaye Haaskam Saha Paralowa Sapatha’, which is scheduled to be released early next year.
D.H.S.P.S. is a personal dedication to Commander Lalith Prasanna Edirisinghe, Nero and all of the 8 members of the D.S.Senanayake College Baseball team who lost their lives to a senseless suicide bomb attack by the Terrorist organization, L.T.T.E.
This song gave me chills the first time I heard it on the band’s myspace. Funeral In Heaven, the name alludes to the lives lost in this paradise isle. The band has been experimenting with their sound as of late, adding thabla, esraj and voilin to the instruments used. Towards the middle you’ll hear the esraj and violin playing and under it the voice of a woman, if you don’t understand Sinhala, she’s basically speaking about the loss of her son, one of the members of the D.S.Senanayake College Baseball team.
This song itself, to me, is evidence of how this band has progressed over the years. Here’s the demo version from their 2006 release “Blasphemy Is Our Throne”.
